Botox Injections
Our doctors at Physicians Center have been using Botox since 1993. We were the first physicians in Western Michigan to start to use Botox. Botox is a watered down toxin derived from a bacteria, Clostridium Botulinum. It is injected to paralyze specific muscles that are in chronic spasms. It is ideally suited for treatment of a very local problem in which we want to avoid side effects of oral medications or persistent problems that did not respond fully to oral medications. By temporarily paralyzing particular muscles, we are able to control pain caused by muscle spasms and spasticity, and correct biomechanical imbalance and joint tightness caused by abnormal muscle tone.
Muscle spasm and tightness secondary to a neurological condition are ideally treated with Botox. Our physiatrists use Botox in the treatment of cerebral palsy, strokes, spinal cord injuries or diseases, brain injury, and involuntary neck and facial movements. Botox can also be used in treatment of uncontrolled drooling, excessive sweating and intractable headaches.
Our Botox injections are done under electromyography (EMG) guidance for precise needle placement into targeted muscles.
If you have been advised that Botox treatments might be beneficial to you or wonder whether it might help you, please fee free to set up a consultation with one of our physiatrists at Physicians Center of Physical Medicine.
