Chronic Pain Management
Our clinic approach to chronic pain management is unique. We emphasize on functional gains rather than pain eradication. Although we offer medications and spinal injections as part of our therapeutic repertoire, we recognize that chronic pain is a psychological, social and physical phenomenon that cannot be treated by a single medical discipline or particular treatment.
It was in the arena of rehabilitation many years ago that physiatrists coined the word “multidisciplinary approach”. No where is that more appropriate than today in the management of chronic pain. Overemphasis or even fanatical application of a single approach, be it physical therapy, medications, behavioral modifications, interventional spine injections and surgery, does not have a place in our multidisciplinary Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program. Indeed a narrow and single-treatment approach to chronic pain can lead to further disability. Our approach is multidisciplinary in its dimensions and grounded on scientific evidence.
Our physiatrists will head your multidisciplinary team, utilizing different disciplines in medicine and paramedical services to help you cope with your pain. Getting rid of pain may not be possible but coping correctly is everything.
