Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are muscles fibers that get knotted into a tight painful muscle band, tender to touch and limiting motion and function because of pain.
Trigger point therapy consists of physical modalities to relax the tight muscle band (heat, ultrasound, massage) as well as medications to address the muscle tightness and pain. Relaxation techniques through mental imagery may also help relieve the pain.
Trigger point injections are also offered to relax the muscle band. Our physiatrists can perform trigger point injections in conjunction with other physical therapy modalities, medications, and functional restoration program as a multi-modal treatment of the condition. This makes for faster healing.
If your diagnosis is myofascial pain syndrome, tension myalgia, fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome, you may be a candidate for trigger point therapy. Please call our office to make an appointment.
